Isaiah 42:1-9 • Psalm 36:5-11 • Hebrews 9:11-15 • John 12:1-11

Your love, LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.

Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the great deep.

You, LORD, preserve both people and animals.

How priceless is your unfailing love, O God!

People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.

They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights.

For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light. (Psalm 36:5-9)

Today we step into Holy Week. Yesterday in Christian worship gatherings most of us acknowledged Palm Sunday. This is the day we remember Christ’s entrance into the city of Jerusalem.

Today we are back into the day to day. It’s just another Monday.

But, it’s not just another Monday.

Christ has set his face toward the Cross. There’s no stopping the coming sacrifice. He has decided to do what needs to be done to bring reconciliation and restoration to his Creation.

As I processed this psalm this morning it strikes me again at how shallow our thinking about the resurrection really has become.

What is the ultimate display of God’s faithfulness? The crucifixion and resurrection.

What is the ultimate display of God’s righteousness? The crucifixion and resurrection.

What is the ultimate display of God’s justice? The crucifixion and resurrection.

What is the ultimate display of God’s unfailing love? The crucifixion and resurrection.

Oh that we would understand how deep and wide the effect of the crucifixion and resurrection really are. It’s not just a legal transaction. What takes place between Friday and Sunday is the ultimate display of God in all God’s glory.

I’m reminded of this quote…

“I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” ― C.S. Lewis

Truly, in his “light, we see the light.”
